Bespoke Jewellery

Design and create a unique jewel, custom-made just for you. We’ll bring your dream to life; the only limit is your imagination. Fine jewellery is an expression of individuality. It holds memories and emotions, a moment in time, captured in precious materials. We are experts in creating one-of-a-kind jewels, custom-made to suit each client’s style and personality. Whatever your wishes and budget, we can create a piece of jewellery as unique as the person and moment it represents; designed by you and handmade by us.

Next, you’ll choose the gemstones. Our expert gemmologists can source any gem you can imagine. Maybe you’re looking for a bespoke diamond, or simply want to create some bespoke gold jewellery. We’ll explain the technical details and present different options for you to examine in person or via a video call.

Our knowledgeable consultants are trained gemmologists and goldsmiths themselves, so will offer advice and recommendations - but the final decision is yours. Once you’ve selected your precious gemstones, we’ll create a detailed, 360-degree CAD (Computer Aided Design) rendering that brings your design to life in 3D. When it’s perfect, we’ll confirm the final quote.

Personalised Jewellery

A piece of jewellery which includes a personal finishing touch makes a thoughtful present for any occasion. From engraving jewelry with special dates to adding birthstones of loved ones and more, make your jewellery unique.

At Gemstone Watches and Jewelry, we offer both mechanical and hand engraving services.

Mechanical engraving is a fast and accurate method of personalising a gift or trophy. The process consists of a machine engraving characters, symbols or shapes into the metal, using a drill. Mechanical engraving offers numerous benefits such as precision and repeatability.

For an even more personal touch, our highly-skilled, freehand engraver can engrave in any style of your choice, creating a unique stroke - even replicating your own handwriting. The engravings are created using a small steel graver. The graver is pushed by the palm of the hand to cut through the metal, no machinery is used.

Ring Resizing

There are many reasons why a ring resizing might be necessary. Warm weather, a surprise gift, or the inheritance of a treasured heirloom - all mean that sometimes a ring needs to be carefully resized to fit perfectly and not become uncomfortable or, at worst, stuck. At Pragnell, we specialise in resizing all precious metal rings, including engagement and wedding rings, to ensure they fit flawlessly.

Prior to any work being carried out, our in-house jewellery team will take your measurements before the ring is passed to our expert craftsmen to carefully access each piece, ensuring the required changes won’t affect the structural integrity of the ring.

As with much of our repair work, we use a fusion of state-of-the-art technology and time honoured crafts, so that all resizing works are invisible.

On occasion, when traditional resizing techniques are not suitable, our master craftsmen may suggest an alternative solution using springs or speed bumps. These techniques involve handcrafting either a spring mechanism or speed bumps, also known as pips, in the same precious metal as your ring to bespoke the final fitting. This solution is effective if the ring's style is particularly complicated and cannot easily be resized or if the wearer's knuckle measurement is more prominent than their finger, causing the ring to spin.

Jewellery Polishing and Cleaning

It is essential to take good care of your jewellery if you want it to look and stay at its best. We would also strongly recommend bringing your jewellery into us to have it checked at least once a year, to ensure everything is as it should be. For particularly ornate pieces, or pieces that experience significant wear, every three or so months is more advisable. Better safe than sorry definitely rings true in this instance. If a setting happens to be worn or a stone is loose, then a repair will be less expensive than replacing a lost stone or a lost item of jewellery.

If your jewellery is showing signs of wear and is scratched, we can polish them out for you. This is done by using a machine that has a rotating polishing wheel. During the process of making your jewellery smoother, such as ring polishing, a microscopic layer of metal is removed from the piece until its surface becomes more even. We do not recommend you have your jewellery polished more than once or twice a year. Speak to one of our experts for more information.

Watch Servicing and Repairs

Having your watch serviced ensures your timepiece is kept in the best possible working order. Most manufacturers recommend having a watch serviced at regular intervals, generally every four to seven years.

There are three main reasons for having your watch serviced: lubrication, regulation and water resistance.

Upkeep of oils and lubricants: there are several different oils and lubricants used within a wristwatch. When the lubrication dries up, it can result in additional friction, causing increased wear and reduced timekeeping capabilities.

Regulation: in addition to the oils and lubrication, the timekeeping capability of a watch can change over time. This is due to the wear, minute changes in the position, and strength of the parts within the escapement, including the hairspring. As part of a service, the regulation of the timepiece is fine-tuned and tested.

Maintenance of water resistance: over time, the seals that ensure water resistance can deteriorate; these are checked as part of the service.

Water Damage

As a rule, water and the internal elements of watches don’t mix. Even the smallest amount of water inside your watch can cause major damage. The first sign of water ingress is usually the glass fogging up. Over time, it can cause deterioration of the internal parts both visible and invisible to the wearer - small fragments can become entrapped in the movement, potentially causing the watch to stop. A full service will remove any moisture trapped in the watch, with any worn parts replaced and re-lubricated.
The usual watch servicing steps are disassembly, cleaning, re-lubrication, reassembly and then testing. Once a watch has passed the testing stage, it can be released back to the owner. The longer the internal parts of a watch are exposed to moisture, the more likely other parts will become corroded and will need replacing too. If major parts such as the dial or base plate need replacing, this could increase the price of the service.

Quartz watches also require servicing. However, the intervals between services are often longer than that of manual and automatic mechanical watches. Most quartz watches contain about 90% mechanical parts and require the same care and attention as any mechanical timepiece.

You may find that the lifespan of the battery reduces each time it is changed; this is partly due to the lubricants drying up. Movement parts will also be wearing, just as they do in a mechanical watch. Should the battery life start to last less than a year, then it is likely the watch requires a service. If a watch is sent to the manufacturer for a battery replacement, they will check to see if a full service is required too.
